Ive owned and riden harleys since 1956, (i am a geezer now at 85 yoa) they are infinitely better than they were. I mean there is no comparison. I have a local shop in melbourne fl work on it wen want something done. I spent a lot of money on a chronic problem with my battery. It would go dead overnight . I told the dealer the dealer i felt that it was grounded out ,nothing major just a short somewhere. They charged it , said it was ok. I rode it home and it was dead in the morning. This wen on and on they replaced the battery twice.(I paid. For all of this) no matter what the battery died overnight. I moved to florida , had he bike trucked as, the battery was dead.(couldn,t trust it hold a charge overnight) took it to the local guy. Told him wuat i thought the prolem was but the dealer couldnt find it. It took him less than 5 minutes to locate the problem ( it was grounding out just like i had said but the dealer had just replaced the batteries. That is why i have the local guy, southern v twin, here in melborme fl, as my go to guy. You may find out thats is a better way to go than yue mega franchise dealerships that jus want you money

2 valves and springs are lighter and require less work than one slightly larger? I wouldn't go back to an evo from a twin cam but I get more bang per £ than an M8. 75 ft lbs at 2 ½k with s&s 509 on a dyna seems useable. I would have made 1st taller and 3rd an 4th closer on the 5 speed but I'm in the UK where we have hills and small roads. 99 FXDL.

Just came across video series. Having major oil consumption issues on an 18 FLSB that I’ve had since new. For the longest time, would use 1/2qt in about 1000 miles. Now that’s down to about 450 miles and I only fill cold to bottom of stick and hot don’t like to see more than about 1/2way up. It’s going into air cleaner and cylinders, seeing ashy deposits in outside spark plugs. Today I pulled the CKP sensor out after about a 30 minute ride back from hardware store. Only got a few drops out of there, so not thinking sumping is my issue. This started when I was on a trip and I took to another dealer to check. They thought breathers in heads are the issue. Is this a possibility? Bike has just under 50k miles on it. I have appt with local shop now that I’m home next weekend and will have them do compression and leak down tests. Hoping that that’s not the issue because I really don’t have time for a big bore kit install at this time. I leave for Sturgis in only a few weeks. Anything else I should be considering at this point?

Well, that's like all these people that phone me up and email me, and they say would you mind doing short survey for us? and I'm like sure do you have an invoice number for me so I can send you a bill? AND, that's when they tehy usually laugh or choke or cough and tell you that they want you to do it for free. Then I usually reply that my time is valuable, and I usually like to spend it with my family, not supporting some corporation's bottom line supplying data for their sales algorythm and A.I..... But I'm always available for consultation at $140.00/hr if they're still interested. Usually they're not.... and I no longer get phone calls or emails from them anymore. which is great! LOL!😊

Kevin, not sure if you can give me a route to explore. Stock 107 2018 M8 Softail, just under 50k miles. No issues until about 2 weeks ago when I was on a trip. Now using about 1/2qt of oil every 400 miles, about double what it was going through. Getting good amount of oil in air cleaner in addition to showing signs of ash on the spark plugs. Shop I stopped at thinks the breathers in the heads are bad. Power feels good, fuel mileage pretty normal, other than fighting headwinds

There's so many reasons I love your channel. The next time I'm in the States I'll happily spend hours looking for you missing box of bits just so I can look around your shop with your approval. The needle wiggle triggered me a bit. A radiused indent in your mushroom of just greater radius than the shaft being measured would reduce it, assuming it would stay aligned and wouldn't spin... Love your work.

Scopes on a Harley. I have a 4 channel Micsig I use for equipment diagnostics. I definitely want to scop my bike to get known good captures of the signals on my 23 ST SG. Nobody is doing this that so know of but it’s common practice in the automotive world. I’m interested in synching up the crank notch to MAP readings while idling for tuning purposes.

Very interesting video, I have a 2018 M8 and learned alot about this engine from watching. Only thing I would suggest is that you talk through steps in the process for instance do's and don'ts when tearing down and specifics, ie tools, measurements, bolt patterns, torques etc during the rebuild. Would love to see the rebuild.

With all respect I feel I must point out one fact and it doesn't have anything to do with what you do but rather it is the fact that you used a thumbnail from a movie that I am certain I am not alone saying this so I will put it like this it is my opinion that you should watch the movie "The Goonies" because even though I understand it was an actor that played the part but that carecture was not only a good man but he was a hero and a friend. I insist that you take no disrespect from my opinion because it is just that my opinion and I also appreciate your videos and thank you for posting them sincerely.

Thank you for your candor and well thought out comment sir. I am compelled to reply and you may be surprised as to why.... I often hide easter eggs in my videos. It may be an item on a workbench, in the background, or my chosen words. These hidden gems are fun for me...to sit back and see who notices. Many are noticed and it makes me smile. You noticing Sloth in the thumbnail was exactly the easter egg for this video and largely the point of it. Goonies is one of my favorite movies. I have many....one other would be The Outsiders. To quote Robert Frost, "Nothing gold can stay". But to quote the character Johnny Cade as he is passing (the author S.E. Hinton actually), "Stay gold Ponyboy".....powerful...but I digress. Sloth had great character which was in direct contrast to his appearance. His appearance was metaphorical implying lack of intelligence and aggression. In other words...he isn't what he seemed. The image was used as analogy. In my piston ring example, a person has to choose their approach. One can assume another has bad intent or is ignorant...an idiot...and pass judgement on them for self benefit. Yet, in reality, that person passing judgement may not know any better. They simply don't know what they don't know...and another suffers the consequence of their own ignorance. I guess in short...things aren't always what they seem. Over the years...near countless times I've been told of an engine disassembly and rings not lined up in their original orientation. Incorrectly, this condition has been blamed for other issues...and those lead to another short term rebuild. What they thought was a problem...wasn't. This is only one of many examples. Sometimes, folks just don't know. And of course, there are those that don't know what they don't know. A key of intelligence is knowing one doesn't know everything and they ask the question, Why. If Sloth tore down an engine and saw rings all over the place...I'd be willing to bet he'd ask why. ;)
